Let's Look at Apocalypse: Dream-walker Squadron

The wraithknight formation is awesomely awesome because the wraithknights in the formation get bonuses to BS, WS, charge range, and movement (I think that's all of them) equal to the number of wraithknights in the formation. So if there were 5 wraithknights (the unit can be from 3-5) then they would get +5 to all of the things mentioned before. Plus they are wraithknights, and wraithknights are just awesome because they have awesome models. I have said awesome a lot in this post, I guess that's awesome. I will probably write some more posts on apocalypse later, but I have had lots of homework and other stuff going on so maybe not for a while. Plus there are a lot of other things I would like to post too. Have fun with your Dream-walker Squadrons!!

New Background!

This is more of an update rather than a post. I saw this background image on google images and I thought it looked pretty cool, like something that would happen in 40k. So I decided to see how it looked on the blog and I'm going to leave it there for a while and see how it goes. I may take it down if I feel that it doesn't look so good later but I guess I just kind of wanted to update the blog a bit, freshen it up if you know what I'm saying. By the way I'll have some apocalypse reviews up soon so be looking for them.

What's Going On

There have been barely any posts this summer and we apologize. I could not think of ANYTHING to post about and I was also busy doing fun and awesome summer stuff. I went to Minnesota, worked on a farm there, played some Warhammer (40k mostly), and some video games.

I've been looking at the new apocalypse book and there is a lot of awesome stuff. Orks can now loot any vehicle formation from any other race. I don't see anything that puts the vehicles down to ballistic skill 2 so I'm assuming that those vehicles auto-target or something. There were a lot of new super-heavy's and other formations, and Games Workshop is actually making plastic models for some! Hooray for cheaper titans! I'm sad that there are no Eldar titans though because I love Eldar. Yes I know that the Wraithknight is about as big as a Stompa but it's not as good as a super-heavy. There is however a Wraithknight formation though, and it is awesome. I will talk further about apocalypse stuff and this formation in another post so look out for it, hopefully I'll have it out in a couple days.

Emperor vs. The other Founder Dude aka Sigmar

Hi guys,
Over the past few months I have been diving into the Warhammer lore and soaking it up. But recently a question popped into my head, and I just want to see what other peoples opinions are. So, the question is who do you like more; The Emperor (Warhammer 40k) or Sigmar (Warhammer Fantasy)? Hope to see all of your opinions soon.

A tutorial(and pics for once)

So, for the first time in this blogs(admittedly short) lifespan, I have a tutorial for you all. This is my own unique way of painting grimy metal(don't try this on space marines or the like, it looks fantastic on orks though). It has very few steps, and you don't need to be that good to do it. When I use old paints, refer to the Citadel Paint Conversion Chart. The miniature used is an Ork Deffkopta from the OOP starter set Assault on Black Reach.

Step 1: Basecoat the mini black. Doesn't matter how, doesn't matter what shade, just black. I chose a color of spray primer that looks a lot like oil and dirt in an auto repair workshop, but even if you don't have access to that, you can fix it in a later stage. I don't have pictures of this for obvious reasons. If you want to know the exact primer, comment and I'll get back to you.

Step 2: Drybrush with Leadbelcher from the new Citadel paint range. You can be messy about it, mainly you want to get the edges and spread streaks along the flat parts. There should be a lot of black showing through, so don't worry about it.

Step 3: Edge highlight the miniature with Chainmail(from the old range). Just get all the edges of everything you are painting with metal, but in this case, I did the whole model, as the rest of the colors were not really defined. You can also drag streaks of the brush across bits of the model if you wish.

Step 4: Put a Badab Black wash in the recesses of the model. Splash on a lot of it, but don't go too crazy. It should make the recesses of the model look oily and grimy, as if nobody has cleaned it in a while. You can't really see it in this picture(my camera's not that great), but it works pretty well. If you want to, you can substitute a brownish wash to simulate rust.

I used this tutorial on the Deffkopta at the top of the page, and I have some more pictures of it here. Enjoy!

Payday: The Heist Review

In no other games does 4 minutes sucks as much as it does in this game. The game revolves around a team of 4 players pulling off all kinds of criminal jobs, from robbing banks, to collecting a deadly disease from an isolation ward patient in a hospital. Right from the start, I have to say that this game is absolutely made for multiplayer. If you do play single player, be prepared to get no help from your team, as the only thing they can do is shoot. This makes jobs take much longer, and thus allows for more hostiles to make your life a living hell. The second thing about the game is the message of DO NOT MESS WITH THE POLICE! In the game, there are assault waves that try and arrest your teammates. Now a few SWAT wouldn't be so bad, but every assault wave has about 50 guys coming at you. To just make it worse, they also start to come from everywhere (stairs, elevator shafts, the ceiling, etc.). Again, this is okay when the guys with no body armor, but when the guys in bomb suits start to come in, well... Let's just say it is very bad. Overall, the gameplay is very fun. Now the bad stuff. It takes a ridiculously long time to unlock new weapons and equipment. Note: It may just be me that thinks it takes a long time, as I am a very impatient person. Also, there are very short breaks in assault waves, starting at 30 seconds, and then slowly declining. I think they could of also done more with hostages, like delay an assault wave. In this game, you can only use hostages to get back team members that have been taken into custody by the police. That is my opinion on this game, and please let it be known that a sequel is coming out, and I have not played it, so I do not know if they fixed any of these downsides. Hope you enjoyed this post, and stay tuned for more.

Games Dawson is Looking Forward To

Over the course of this summer, many games will earn my attention by releasing trailers and information. Here are a few that have caught my attention.
Beyond Two Souls
This game is made by the makers of Heavy Rain, which is one of the most depressing games ever made. Anyways, the plot line is that you play a girl that is bounded to a supernatural spirit named Ivan. Anyways, I have not heard much about it, and the only things I have seen are the official and gameplay trailers that have been released. Just by these pieces of media, I can already tell that the game will be amazing.
Rome II Total War
Set to come out September 3rd, this game has been under my observation since was announced. I have always been a fan of the Total War series, and it was in fact Rome Total War that made me fall in love with this series. In this new addition to the series, there are many improvements that have been announced. These improvements include naval invasions and bombardments, new key decisions, and unique factions with different units and technologies that they can research. Personally, I am very excited at the prospect of a Spartan naval invasion. Its like pure awesomeness (Spartans) times 10 (Naval Invasion). Athens has nothing on this.
Company of Heroes 2
This is a game that I haven't really paid close attention to, but I am still looking forward to it. The first game was set during WW2, on the Western Front. This game changes to the more brutal and bloody Eastern Front, where the German and Russian forces duke it out. One of the few unique features is that the battlefield changes depending on if it is winter or summer. If it is summer, there are checkpoints along the river where the enemy has to cross. The winter freezes the water, and your troops can cross over the ice that forms. This may seem like a good thing, but if they call an artillery strike on your tanks while they are on the frozen ice, the tanks will sink. Also, the cold winter will literally damage your troops, forcing you to build fires in order to protect and heal them.
These are just the games that quickly come to mind. I hope that I have interested you in these games, and maybe even spread my enthusiasm to you. Have a nice summer, and more posts are on the way.

New Eldar!

Hooray once again! Another one of my armies has a new codex coming out: Eldar. I have played Eldar for a while and have made a decently sized collection in my opinion. So I can't wait to expand it with all of this awesome new stuff.

First of all the Wraithknight. It is super huge! Like Games Workshop said on their homepage today, "and you thought the Riptide was big." Then we finally get a flyer, it looks like there is two flyers in the one set so you can build either one. Then there are also Spirit Seers now which are basically Wraithguard and Farseers combined if you don't know (at least that's what I think they are). Spirit Seers were made by Forge World before hand and were in one of the Imperial Armor books but now they're in the codex and Games Workshop makes them as well. Then there is also some type of new Wraithguard and a new Farseer model. I don't know about any of you readers but I am most excited about the Wraithknight and the flyers.

I hope all of you have fun with your Eldar when you get them (if you get them). Hooray for Eldar!

Dawson's Top 10 Strategy Games

Dawson's Top 10 Games to Test Your Strategic Knowledge
(Note: This is not in order. All games in the list are just games that I really like.)
1. Total War Franchise
The Total War franchise is one of the most unique strategy PC games known. The system of turn based campaign, combined with real-time strategy battles, and set in historical eras, leads to hours of untold enjoyment.
2. Warhammer Franchise
More accurately the Dawn of War series, this game series is one of the few digital representations of the game Warhammer 40k. The range of diverse factions, along with the involvement of the Blood Ravens and Gabriel Angelos, makes this game series one of the most unique strategy games out there.
3. Command and Conquer Franchise
The creator of modern day real-time strategy, the Command and Conquer game series is one of the most developed and interesting of the PC strategy game series. Their creation of each faction's strengths and weaknesses, along with the additional live action cutscenes, make this game series one to always have on your wishlist.
4. East India Company Series
The East India Company series is a PC game that begins in the 1600’s to the early 1700’s. The game revolves around the many European powers fighting over the vast resources of the Indian sub-continent, and the many colonies along the coast of Africa along the way.
5. Axis and Allies
Axis and Allies is the upgraded version of Risk set in during WWII. The incorporation of technology, region values, and combat stats make the game much more detailed than the average game of Risk.
6. Defcon
If anyone has seen the movie War Games, then you should almost be instantly familiar with this game. This game of thermonuclear war has many features that make it unique, including an office mode, which only requires you to press escape in order to close it (this is great when your boss comes around).
7. Civilization Franchise
How can we not include this all time classic in the list. This game, which is the game of all time (seriously, it includes all of human history) ensures hours of replayability for your hearts enjoyment.
8. Risk Franchise
The most classic board game strategy of the modern era, this game has launched untold sequels and conversions. The game only really holds power in its name (in my opinion), as other games are starting to surpass it in quality.
9. Monopoly Franchise
Now this isn't a game of military conquest, but conquest still the same. In this all time classic you must buy and trade to make your property empire, and establish a monopoly.
10. X-COM Enemy Unknown
The remake of the old classic, this game covers an alien invasion of Earth. Your mission is to assemble a team of elite commando's from all over the world, and to beat back the alien menace.

High Elves: Dragon Princes of Caledor Review

Dragon Princes, the High Elf heavy cavalry. They are decent heavy cavalry I say, they're not as good as Skullcrushers, yet they're not terrible. First of all statistics and equipment. They have good movement since they are riding elven steeds and have ilithmar barding so don't sacrifice any movement for barding. They are Elves so have always strikes first, low toughness, and low strength. They have weapons skill 5 which is above average and 2 attacks per model which is great. They will do good amounts of damage on the charge because of their lances, good weapon skill, and a good number of attacks. Do not charge anything with high strength because they will bring your nice 2+ armor save to something undesirable, perhaps even ignore it. So that's why you flank their other units because it is extremely doubtful that they will have an entire army with high strength. Charging units with great weapons could go good or bad for you. You will attack first but they do have high strength. In fact you'll attack first against most units so you just need to make sure that your judgement is good regarding charging high strength units. For upgrades full command is always nice I guess. You can block those nasty mega powerful tank-characters with champions so your whole unit doesn't get annihilated. You can give your champion a magic weapon if you want and have the points and can give your standard bearer a magic banner which can be useful depending on what banner it is. So Dragon Princes are a good high elf unit. They're quite balanced I think so it is always nice not use lots of cheese in your army so that not everybody hates you. So have fun with your Dragon Princes!!

Warriors of Chaos: Dragon Ogres Review

Hooray for Dragon Ogres! Let's go kill some Skaven! If you have a problem with Skaven players using lots of lightning attacks such as Warp Lightning Cannons use Dragon Ogres (or Shaggoth's). Dragon Ogres are great for rat problems, just call 1-800-DRAGON OGRES FTW!!! So always use them against Skaven so you can destroy their stuff without being shot to bits by cannons. First of all, options. I would give them great weapons because they are initiative 2 which is crap. So might as well give them +2 strength with Always Strikes Last. This would make them ideal for killing monsters and models that are hard to kill. They may also do well with killing cannons if you can get them across the board fast enough, movement 7 is pretty good so that could work. Whenever you play against Skaven take some Dragon Ogres, it will annoy the crap out of them (unless they don't have any lightning stuff which is unlikely though because their lightning stuff is good). So use your Dragon Ogres as cover for as much of your army as you can when playing against Skaven so that their lightning cannons don't do much. Charge your dragon ogres into Doomwheels too so that their lightning attacks in close combat (as I believe they can use their guns in close combat or at least when they charge) will do nothing and can't do anything to the rest of your army. So Dragon Ogres are a good unit and are great against Skaven. Not just great but are what saves you from all of the Skaven lightning stuff. I hope you guys have fun with your Dragon Ogres!

High Elves: Phoenix Guard Review

Phoenix Guard is the most balanced unit regarding Phoenix Guard, White Lions, and Sword-Masters of Hoeth. Phoenix Guard are pretty hard to kill as they have their 4+ ward save so will last a good amount of time in a game (unless you roll terribly of course). They also have halberds so do have some hitting power plus weapon skill 5. So they will do a good amount of damage throughout the game plus will survive longer than MOST other High Elf units. White Lions and Sword-Masters aren't as rounded as Phoenix Guard, Sword-Masters don't have very good defense and White Lions only have good defense versus non-magical shooting attacks. They are both more specialized in putting out a lot of damage with not so good defense while Phoenix Guard are half and half. They do good damage and have good defense at the same time. So overall definitely take Phoenix Guard if you can. This doesn't mean not to take Sword-Masters or White Lions, just take Phoenix Guard first.

The Armies of Ulthuan

I have some High Elves from the past and my interest for them has sparked once again. So I have decided to work on my High Elf army. I will be posting reviews on units from the army book as I have done in the past. Have fun with your new stuff High Elf players!

New High Elves

Oooh! Shiny!

That said, I am not starting a new army. I need to at least finish 1 for Fantasy before I start another. What my second army will be remains to be seen, but you won't know yet. I do suspect that despite his current focus on the forces of chaos, Mr. H will be excited for this release. As of yet I am attempting to get him to purchase a Sky-boat(read: Lothern Skycutter), and a bird(read: Phoenix), because I would quite like to see both those things on the tabletop, even if they are pummeling me instead of my opponent. Anyway, there might be more High Elves stuff on here at some point, cause they are back in a big way.

GGH update

Hey all, as Duncan said we are sorry for the lack of posts. I've been wanting to make posts but again like Duncan said we've had school conflicting with our blogging time. I have been wondering what to write about, I do enjoy writing about Warriors of Chaos but I do not know what else to really write about. I could do some more reviews but I have reviewed everything that I thought could use a review (or sometimes I just feel like reviewing a particular unit). So if any of you readers have any ideas go ahead and post a comment on this post. At the Great Gaming Hall we welcome your comments (as long as they're polite) so we can improve this blog and meet your requests. Also if you haven't already I urge any Warriors of Chaos players to visit the Chamber of the Everchosen. It is a Warriors of Chaos forum and is great if you need any advice with your pillaging and slaughter in the name of the dark gods.

Lack of posts...

I can't speak for the other members, but I am sorry about my lack of posting here recently. Homework has been cutting into my free time, especially for writing. I can promise an update for 'Whispers' soon and a new story is in the works, this time for Fantasy.

Vampire Counts Tactica Part 1: Introduction

Well, I guess I just like making tacticas for my friends. I'm not likely to play the vamps soon, mostly cause Tomb Kings are a whole lot like them. That said, they are a nice army, and Rise of Nagash makes me want to play them. We'll see though. This post mainly is to say: I've found a formula for the order of tacticas.
1. Introduction
2. Lords and Heroes
3. Magic items and Magic Lore
4. Core
5. Special
6. Rare

IG Tactica: HQ

HQ

Company Command Squad
Very versatile. They can have weapons teams, special weapons, medpacks, standards. These guys have it all, and start at the bargain price of 50 pts. They can also take regimental advisors.

-Astropath
+1 Reserve and reroll Outflank. Not that useful usually. Skip unless you're spamming Valkyries.

-Master of Ordnance
Against the numerous marine armies out there, this will be invaluable, as it will tear through their armour. Useful in combination with heavy weapons on the rest of the squad, as you will be staying in place to use all of the weapons with anything.

-Officer of the Fleet
-1 enemy reserve, reroll their outflank if you want them to. Not great.

-Bodyguard
A veteran with more attacks that can auto-look out sir twice per turn for the commander. Good stuff. Also, this is not technically Look Out Sir!, so you can look out sir again. Useful, as the commander is not exactly hard to kill.

-Lord Castellan Creed
Gives an infantry unit or vehicle Scouts. Four orders a turn, and knows every order there is, plus a unique order.

   -For the Honour of Cadia!
The ordered unit has Furious Charge and Fearless.

-Colour Sergeant Kell
Has a powerfist, allows squads to take orders on his officers leadership, and can use Look out-Arghh, if he in a unit with Creed. Not really worth 5 pts less than Creed unless you are using both.

-Colonel 'Iron Hand' Straken
Fearless, all units within 12", including his squad have Counter Attack and Furious Charge. Ignores armour saves and has 2d6 AP.

-Nork Deddog
An Ogryn with a plethora of special rules, has Look Out-Arghh!, can't be executed, and deals a D6 of S6 hits if he dies. Also, if his commander is executed, he kills the Commy responsible.

-Lord Commissar
Stubborn to their unit, will execute commanders to restore moral, and Ld 10 to units within 6".

-Commissar Yarrick
Fearless, 12" Stubborn aura, his squad rerolls to hi ton charges. Has almost a 70% chance of coming back to life each time he dies, hot shot laspistol, and a force field that forces wounds to be rerolled.

-Primaris Pysker
An offensive psyker.

-Ministorum Priest
Reroll failed to hit for his unit on the charge, unless Ogryn or Ratlings.

-Techpriest Enginseer
Like a techmarine without power armour. Can take servitors to help him fix things.

Warriors of Chaos: Hellcannon Overview

Go Hellcannon's!!! These guys are great, they're basically very Chaos-y stone throwers. With their strength of 5(10) they will devastate infantry. There is one slight problem, misfiring. If you misfire with a Hellcannon there's a good chance that it will do no good for the rest of the game if it isn't dead already. A good chunk of the misfire outcomes are killing Chaos Dwarf crew members which keep the Hellcannon from driving itself straight into the enemy. So they can be risky, though always take one because the long range fire support will help a lot. One very important thing to remember with Hellcannons is that if you have bad luck with it it will die most likely or at least do nothing for the rest of the game. So Hellcannons are a bit risky so have a good plan and try to make the most of them before they die.

Imperial Guard Tactica: Special Equipment

This part will only cover weapons and items that are ubiquitous to this codex. Unit specific weapons, and the ones in the rulebook, will not be covered here.

Infantry Armoury

Demolition Charge
Notably carried by Guardsman Marbo, the Demolition Charge is a S8 AP2 Assault 1 large blast, one shot only. That sounds nice until you realize it scatters and has a 6" range. Best used on Marbo, as a suicide unit. Seeing as he won't get a charge until the second turn that he's there, this is the best use for him.

Grenade Launcher
An Assault weapon. Can fire a S3 AP6 small blast or a S6 AP4 single shot. You want as many of these as you can get your hands on playing against 'Nids or Orks. That is all.

Hot-shot Lasweapons
Like normal lasguns and laspistols, except AP3.

Sniper Rifle
Long ranged, Heavy 1, with the Sniper special rule. Notably carried by Ratling Snipers.

Vehicle Armoury

Camo Netting
A Vehicle with this upgrade has Stealth, provided that it didn't move.

Dozer Blade
Vehicle with a dozer blade re-roll failed difficult terrain.

Extra Armour
Crew Stunned turns to Crew Shaken.

Heavy Stubber
3 shots, a long range. That's all.

Hunter-killer Missile
BS3 Krak Missile, 1 shot and unlimited range.

Multi-laser
Good for lots of high strength shots. Will take down MC's pretty well, but lack of a decent AP will screw you over against something with a high armour.

Camo Cloaks
Stealth.

Medi-pack
Available to command squads only. Grants Feel No Pain.

Refractor Field
5+ Invuln.

Regimental Standard
+1 combat result, friendlies within 12" reroll morale and pinning.

Vox-caster
Highly recommended. Allows failed orders for the unit to be re-rolled.

IG Tactica: Special Rule

So, why, Terminado? Why is it not special rules?

Well, dear reader, it's because the Imperial Guard only have one special rule. It's called Orders. Officers in a Command Squad are able to issue orders, and they do so in a strict order. Company Command Squad, then Platoon Command Squads. You may only issue an order if the model doing the issuing is not locked in assault, embarked in a vehicle, falling back, or gone to ground. It also must be done before the officer and squad shoot or run. However, it does not prevent them from doing either. Each time he issues an order he must target a friendly non-vehicle unit from the Imperial Guard Codex for the order. The unit must take a leadership test to see if the order is understood. Orders cannot be issued to squads in a transport, that have run, shot, received an order already(failed or passed), falling back, or gone to ground. If the test is successful, the squad carries out the order, and then concludes the shooting phase. On double 1's, the order is issued and the officer can make another order without a test on the same unit. This order does not count towards the officer's allowance. On double 6, no orders can be made that turn. If the test is failed normally, nothing happens.

Generic Orders:

NOTE: All orders with a enemy target, unless otherwise noted, require the officer to have LOS to the target. Unique orders(if any) will be covered in the analysis of the appropriate character.

Bring it Down!
If the order is successful, the squad shoots at one vehicle(or squadron), monstrous creature(or unit), counting their shots as twin-linked. Best used on weapons teams.

Fire on my Target!
The squad shoots at one enemy unit, with the enemy re-rolling successful cover saves. If it's not obvious, the best use of this is to fire at enemy shooting units that are holed up in cover, that can take down your tanks.

Get Back in the Fight!
Only issued to units that are falling back or gone to ground. The unit regroups if falling back, and returns to normal if gone to ground, ignoring all restrictions. The squad may then shoot and assault, if it has the capability for either. Best used if your giant infantry platoon runs away. Otherwise, you won't be using this often.

First Rank, FIRE! Second Rank, FIRE!
The unit shoots at any visible target. The officer does not need LOS. Models in the unit with lasguns fire an extra shot that phase. Best used to bolster the firepower of a infantry squad in a platoon.

Incoming!
The unit goes to ground and receives +2, instead of +1, to their cover save, until the end of their turn. Well used to hide a command squad, or a unit of veterans.

Move! Move! Move!
The ordered unit runs, using three dice and using the highest result to see how far they move.

IG Tactica

Ok, doing another random tactica for an army I don't play. This time it's the 40k codex for Imperial Guard. Watch for a substantial post later today.

Designed around Kemmler and Krell. They are in the same unit so you can take advantage of Krell's power(the Grave Guard). The main idea is for Kemmler to try to kill stuff with his many attacks(for a human wizard), and heal the Grave Guard, and not die because of Ethereal, and if he has to leave, he can use Fly.

Vampire Counts 1.5k
This is a list I helped my friend make. At the end their is a 500 pt addition for when it goes to 2000. It is just a balanced list that should do pretty well. The Corpse Cart stays near the GG and Ghouls for ASF. The Wight BSB stays with the Knights, and uses the Razor Standard to make any armor inadequate.

Horde of Chaos thoughts

The Horde of Chaos ruleset from Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos is basically my dream ruleset. If you didn't know, it is a ruleset designed to use elements ofall four Warhammer Chaos Armybooks in a single Grand Army. It allows me to satisfy my ADD and use all of my distractions in the same army. I do not at current own the book but when I do expect a review on here.

Big D's thoughts on the Toad Dragon

Written by yours truly
(To the tune of "On top of Spaghetti")

On top of dead bodies, all covered in cheez, there was a Toad Dragon, all filled with disease

Warriors of Chaos: Chimerae Overview

Now this is how us chaos vikings troll. Chimerae are fun because they have, fly, scaly skin 4+, and 6 strength 6 attacks. Now how trolly can that be? Actually I think Chimerae aren't super good but it can be fun trolling them. The only reason I think they can be trolly is because they could fly about to the enemy's deployment zone in one move. Charging will not due that unless you roll EXTREMELY well. So they won't be able to really do crap up there unless you give him flaming breath. The only good I think it could really do in that position is distract the enemy. They have 4 wounds so will probably be killed once they get up there, that's why they won't do much. That's only if you move them right up to the enemy first turn, so move them up through cover instead so they won't get slaughtered by ranged weapons. Most of the upgrades are good except for the poisoned attacks one, they have strength 6 so don't really need an auto wound on 6's. Flaming breath and regeneration is good though, just a bit expensive so if you have points for them, take them. Take regeneration first though so they are harder to kill so can do overall more damage. So if you use them carefully and right, just like anything else, they will do good. Have fun with your Chimerae's!

Ogre Tactica: Units

Brace yourself, this is a long one.

Greasus Goldtooth: Awesomely powerful, but his points cost is such that he is almost as expensive as Archaon, which is saying something. He has a plethora of special rules that will buff your units while crippling the enemy’s, and has a tremendous strength of 10. Watch out, though, because he will slow down any unit he’s with.

Skrag the Slaughterer: Only really worth it if you max out on Gorgers. He is a fair bit more expensive than a Lvl 4 Slaughtermaster with a full complement of magic items. Since he has frenzy, he is not really controllable, and he is designed to get into combat. If he gets the right spells, he can rip through anything the opponent throws at him. The main detriment is magic kills don’t add to the tally. If he gets Bullgorger, Toothcracker, and Trollguts, he will be unstoppable.

Tyrant: Your generic Lord choice. Tyrants are combat monsters, plain and simple. They don’t really offer anything useful to their unit, and are basically just beatsticks. Overpriced compared to similar characters such as Chaos Lords and Tomb Kings.

Slaughtermaster: Your Lord level wizard. They are meant to be with a unit, using the lore of the Great Maw so that they can buff the unit. Don’t get too cocky though. They are still wizards, and are more less choppy than the Tyrant, which is cheaper.

Golgfag Maneater: A bit too random to be truly effect. On average, he will get about 70 pts of Magic Items, which doesn’t match up to his points cost. On the other hand, you can tailor his weapon set to the army that you are fighting. Golgfag’s Maneaters is not that useful unless you know you are using allies. It is optional though, so it doesn’t matter that much.

Bragg the Gutsman: Double points cost for +1 strength and HKB in challenges? No way.

Bruiser: This is your good generic beatstick. Can also be your BSB.

Hunter: Best mounted on a stonehorn, with a Harpoon Launcher, but can lead packs of Sabretusks on the ground.

Butcher: Not as good as a slaughtermaster, but a cheap wizard, and usually the one you want using alternate lores.

Firebelly: An awesome choice, flaming attacks, 4+ward against flame, fear, and a S4 breath weapon for only 20 points more than a Butcher.

Ogre Bulls: Your good core choice. They will generally be outnumbered three or four to one, so be aware of that, but awesome on the charge.

Ironguts: Can occasionally be worth it in small squads of 6 or so, but generally too expensive for what they gain. Definitely not unusable, though.

Gnoblars: Well, they’re cheap, but thats about all they have going for them. They could be a tarpit I guess.

Leadbelchers: Always take Leadbelchers. They have an awesome shooting attack for the same points as an Irongut, and can fight in close combat if need be with surprising effectiveness.

Maneaters: Expensive, but quite versatile.

Sabretusks: Eh. Not really that useful unless you have a Hunter.

Yhetees: Overpriced some. Flammable sucks. Aura of frost is kinda nice though.

Mournfang Cavalry: Yes. Oh great Maw, yes. Pretty much the best monstrous cavalry in the game, with a ton of options.

Gorger: If they were 60 pts, maybe, but at this points cost, no freaking way.

Gnoblar Scraplauncher: Nice movable stone thrower. Not as good as an ironblaster though.

Ironblaster: A moving cannon. Thats all you need to know.

Giant: It’s a giant. Good against small units and characters.

Stonehorn: Powerful monster. Bit of a cannon magnet.

Thundertusk: This is the good one. Slows your opponents, and a good shooting attack.

This is the end of the tactica. Hope you enjoyed, and hope it helps.

Warriors of Chaos: Slaughterbrute Overview

Hey all, I'm doing another unit overview for Warriors of Chaos (duh). Aren't Slaughterbrutes great, awesome models and awesome stats. So as I said in the Shaggoth Overview, I am a bit tied between the Shaggoth and the Slaughterbrute. Yes the Shaggothe may be more balanced but the Slaughterbrute has it's up's too. I absolutely love the Runes of Binding special rule. As Termindado (Duncan Wright) figured out, it would be hilarious if you took Archaon and a bunch of Slaughterbrutes who will then have weaponskill 9 and leadership 10!! You could take a Daemon Prince instead for the weaponskill 9 but would have leadership 9 instead of Archaon's leadership 10. I think the weaponskill is the big part though, who doesn't love high weaponskill. Slaughterbrutes may only have 5 wounds compared to a Shaggoth's 6 wounds, but a Slaughterbrute does have 4+ Scaly Skin save compared to a Shaggoth's crappy light armor. So I think that the Slaughterbrute may be a bit more survivable because of it's 4+ Skaly Skin save but is initiative 3 and attacks 4 compared to a Shaggoth's initiative 4 and attacks 5. Slaughter brutes do have 1 more strength though, and can have the Extra Claws upgrade to give them two strength 5 attacks. However there is one major problem with the slaughterbrute, it is cannon bait. That's not all though, there are so many units better than slaughterbrutes. So it's not the best unit though has a cool model and a cool backstory. I would much rather take a Chimerae or a Shaggoth.

Medal of Honor Warfighter Review

Hey all, I recently got the new Medal of Honor. Don't worry there's no spoilers in this post unless you count talking about stuff you can do in the campaign spoilers (if you want spoilers comment and I can make another post with them). I really liked the last one and I like this one too. I think the multiplayer is better because everything is more customizable. The campaign is still good but I'm not sure if it's as good as the first one. One thing about the last Medal of Honor was that it was so realistic, there were some parts in the new one where it wasn't like that. Like the car chases seemed to get a little cheesy for me. There were just too many car chases and it just didn't seem very realistic, or I guess military like. That's what I liked about the last one, everything was really realistic and just like the military, car chases just doesn't seem very military like. The car chases still were fun though as well as the rest of the campaign, though the first Medal of Honor's campaign might of been just a tad better. The online is great though, there are skins or something for a bunch of countries that you unlock as you level up. You can customize your gun a lot more than you could in the first one. So I think it's a great game, campaign's good, multiplayer is good, I personally reccomend it.

Warriors of Chaos: Dragon Ogre Shaggoth Overview

Hey all, I've been looking through the Warriors of Chaos army book recently and found possibly my favorite rare choice: the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth. Shaggoth's are the most balanced rare choice of all of the Warriors of Chaos rare choices (for close combat). Right now I'm only talking about big things though, not units like Skullcrushers. I was a bit stuck between Shaggoths and Slaughterbrutes being my favorite but I decided I like Shaggoths more because Slaughterbrutes are slower with one less wound, Shaggoths are just more balanced. I am still a bit tied between them though because slaughterbrutes are good too. The stat line of a Shaggoth is very balanced and probably my favorite part about it (it's special rules aren't as good as it's stats. It is great for combat because it has weapnon skill 6, strength 6, toughness 5, 6 wonnds, initiative 4, and 5 attacks. Sure storm rage can be fun but it's not often going to affect anything, not many units have lighting attacks, though it is great if you're fighting skaven I guess because I think they have a lot of lightning stuff. So shaggoths are good but don't rely on them, they're squishy with their 5+ scaly skin save though do have 6 wounds. As for everything don't put them out in the open with a butload of cannons aiming at them. Be smart with Shaggoths, don't just all out charge.

Well guys, I got my first Cryx mini. Getting a battlebox within the next few days. Now I just need to figure out how to assemble him.

Ogre Tactica Part 3: Magic Items

Magic Items

Thundermace: A bit expensive for what it does, but could be useful in the right scenario. The main problem with it is that the cheapest possible magic armour is 25 points, not counting shields. Combined with the Mawseeker name and the enchanted shield you could have enough defense for it to be worth it.

Siegebreaker: No. When are you going to be fighting a building? Simply not worth it for the points cost.

Gnoblar Thiefstone: Quite good. If you roll anything besides 1 you will be getting a useful item, and even if you roll 1, you still have the magic resistance.

Greedy Fist: Could be worth it, if you know you are going into combat with a lot of characters.

Gut Maw: Not really worth it unless you combine it with a character-killing magic weapon, such as the Greedy Fist.

Grut's Sickle: Can be good, but use sparingly, lest your own unit turns upon you.

Hellheart: Ridiculous. You can screw up enemy wizards so bad, and if they manage to cast more spells, you get extra dispel dice.

Rock Eye: Kind of situational, but good for filling up the last extra points that you can't use.

Rune Maw: Another very good item. It will make a deathstar almost impervious to magic. Stick in a unit of Maneaters and wreck face.

Dragonhide Banner: This is one of the best magic banners in the game(Imho). In conjunction with the breath weapon, a successful charge turn will be utterly devastating in the right unit.

Ogre Kingdoms Tactica Part 2: Big Names

Big Names

  • Mawseeker: This makes already tough ogres tougher, and the stupidity tests will be easy to pass on Tyrant Ld.
  • Wallcrusher: Cheap but very effective. You are basically buying a whole extra attack with ASF.
  • Kineater: Skip. Ogres have good Ld in general, so you’re just wasting points and name.
  • Mountaineater: Again, skip, you are unlikely to be hit exclusively with anything that it will matter for.
  • Giantbreaker: A fine choice, but keep him away from any strong characters
  • Deathcheater: Would be nice if you could use it all the time, but usually you won’t need it.
  • Longstrider: No. You will never be by yourself if you have the choice.
  • Beastkiller: Good, but situational.
  • Brawlerguts: Good, especially on a mounted character.

Ogre Kingdoms Tactica Part 1: Magic

So yeah, this is a Ogre Tactica, I'm making it for Dawson as he is in need of help with tactics for his Ogres, and I just thought I'd post it here.

Lore of the Great Maw
Spinemarrow: This is not that great. It is quite temporary and not awesome while it lasts.
1. Bonecrusher: This spell does not really appeal to the general style of Ogres, but it could be nice if you are in a ranged unit or are up against knights.
2. Bullgorger: This is quite nice. Combined with a unit with great weapons you can be consistently wounding on a 2+ and ignoring most armour.
3. Toothcracker: This supplements the Ogre’s already prodigious toughness, which can’t hurt ever.
4. Braingobbler: Quite possibly the worst spell in the lineup. One panic test won’t do anything against the vast majority of armies you will face.
5. Trollguts: This is _awesome_. Combined with Toothcracker and some decent armour, this can make a unit almost impenetrable.
6. The Maw: The maw is alright, but as with Bonecrusher, best if you are in a ranged unit.
